Are you a person who prefers routine in your life, or do you prefer doing whatever and being spontaneous?
I am a person who is selective about routine. I don’t really like structure, but know I need some. My preference in life is to be open ended and spontaneous.
I used to be held captive by structure, but slowly I am getting away from it. Unstructured is a lot more liberating and freeing to me.
Amen to that!! What’s the latest spontaneous thing you did?
As bad as this sounds, I took a different way to work the other day. As weird as that sounds, I thrive in routines…
I also changed the room where I pray in the mornings. I used to do it in the living room, but I moved to the kitchen table, because there are less distractions.
Way to switch it up, Perkins!! That counts! How’s the kitchen working out?
I am definitely spontaneous and while I know that some things are important and need to be done, I can always find something more fun to do! I’m currently working with my creator to find an appropriate balance!
Ha!! I like your appropriate balance finding! I should probably do some of that. I know I need some routine, but really like options!
Ohhhh I’m an interesting one on this….I love routines and plans and schedules (I am a J afterall) but all at once if they are too set in stone then I start getting that boxed in feeling of like but wait there must be something more and something new and I want a challenge and some change. Plus, in the situation of change and spontaneousness, I am ridiculously calm and flexible–hello, working with kids where things change all the time! So, it’s a yes and in my life that is playing itself out….
Ha! You are a J! I’m very much a P. I actually have a draft post on personality! What is your letter mix?
True story on needing both!
My letter mix is INFJ. Supposedly I’m quite rare =)
And yours? my guess would be…. ENFP?
I like the DISC test too and Strengthsfinder is my friend! Really all of that stuff fascinates me!
I’m an INFJ as well. We are the Protectors! The profile fits me to a “t”. It was scary the first time I read it.
Give me structure and routine over chaos anyday, however, my life doesn’t look like that and that is a HUGE struggle for me right now. I need a bit more structure for the sweet babes who need structure in growing up. Too much spontaneous makes it hard to learn and to draw and keep boundaries and be obedient. There are things I think you lose in one extreme or the other. I’m thinking somewhere in the middle. Asking God for direction! Phew!
Sorry I’ve been out-of-touch lately. :( thinking of you!
It has to be hard trying to balance so many personalities at once. Kids need structure for sure. It definitely helps to be a person who likes structure. I’m gonna struggle one day with structure and my kids. Grr! Their does need to be room for both as balance.
Miss you friend!
You won’t struggle! You’ll be a great mom someday because you look to the Best Parent for guidance already. :) that’s the only way we get anything right. And, you are rich in character and, in my humble opinion, parenting grows alot of it in a person. It’s an awesome adventure! :)
Miss you bunches, too.
I’m mostly a structured person. I love routines and check lists and lists for my check lists. But my hubby is COMPLETELY the opposite.
So I’ve discovered that yes, I love spontaniety. I just can’t be spontaneous ALL the time. hehe
Lists for your lists!? Ha! That’s awesome!
I love that you and your hubbub bring both aspects to your marriage! Fun & and annoying at times.
i”m a fairly structured person and thrive off routine, but once in a while i need a little spontaniety (as long as it is planned..just kidding!)
Ha! Controlled spontaneity, nice!
I’m routinely spontaneous.
Haha, not really but that’s how it feels sometimes. I am built for efficiency and structure. I do get burned out at times and recognize the need for spontaneity. The only problem is that I can’t plan it into my day!
I have gotten a lot more free in my life and I can flow with things happening spontaneously at times. I’m getting there…
Ha! Tony, your comment made me laugh! Love how you are “routinely spontaneous”. Awesome. It definitely is hard fit spontaneity into your nice schedule!
Thank you for your comment, it made me smile!
I need a little of both. My job demands spontaneity. I’ve walked in to work so many times expecting to X and have Q come flying up needing to be done. But I need some things to be routine, structure…otherwise they just won’t happen.
I have those days too. Hate when things just come up sometimes. Love that you can rock both!
super spontaneous…but learning to live with routine since i have a child =]
Amen!! I’m with you on spontaneous!! And usher is rolling in to the VA next month!!
I really, really need the routine. Without it, I’m cranky.
